Carving Class Spring 2021  (Ages 18 and Up)

Woodcarving is increasingly a lost art in American society. The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is helping to keep the tradition alive for future generations! Offering both Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced carving classes, the Carrousel Museum has the perfect opportunity for both skilled carvers and those who have never touched a chisel. Space is limited to 8 Students Per Class

All classes are taught by Doug Bathke, a Trustee at the museum who has been carving for over 55 years and teaching for over 45 years. CAll 716-693-1885 to for questions and registration. Classes are a series and cannot be taken individually. Fees are non-refundable after the first class.

Beginner Woodcarving Classes
$100 ($95 for Carousel Society Members)     
             
Aimed at students who have no carving experience or are self-taught carvers who lack specialized technical training, this series of classes introduces tool safety, sharpening, material selection, and finishing. Participants will work on a different project each week, including carving in the round and relief carving. Fee includes instruction, a tool kit to keep, and materials for projects; students bring a pencil to class.
 
Intermediate/Advanced Woodcarving Class  
$85 ($80 for Carousel Society Members)

Admission to this class is with instructor approval only. Our project is a wildlife relief carving. This project will require 99% gauge work. A non-slip mat and c-clamps are required. A pattern and wood will be supplied. The students must bring their own tools: a ruler, a pencil, two 6 inch bench clamps and a non-slip pad. –OR- Students may supply their own pattern and wood and receive guidance on their project. Tools must be supplied by the student.
