Homeschool Classes at HCFM
The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum's homeschool field trips are the perfect complement to any curriculum for students at every level. Each class consists of a museum tour, a carrousel ride, and a hands-on STEM activity. Classes will last approximately 1.5 hours. Classes are limited to 35 students.
Program Fees
- $8 per student (includes tour, 1 carrousel ride, and a STEM workshop
- $4 per guardian (includes tour and 1 carrousel ride)
- $4 per non-participating child (2 years and older) (includes tour and 1 carrousel ride)
- Free child under 2
Common Questions
Do I have to stay with my student?
Yes, we require each child to have an adult guardian or 1 adult guardian per family group (ex. 3 students in 1 family only need 1 adult).

Tallest Towers
Thursday, April 17th 10:00am-11:30am Recommended for grades 3rd-6th Students will tour the museum and learn about the amusement rides that the Allan Herschell Company used to make, including the tallest ride the company ever built, the Skywheel. Using the supplies provided, students will attempt to build the tallest freestanding tower without it toppling over. Homeschool families signed up for this field trip will receive a tour, a carrousel ride, and the Tallest Towers workshop. |
Simple Machines
Thursday, May 15th 10:00am-11:30am Recommended for grades 3rd-6th Students will tour the museum and discover our uses of simple machines. They will be give a rid on our complex machine, the 1916 Carrousel! Students will have the opportunity to build their own complex machine; a moving carousel horse out of household materials. Homeschool families signed up for this field trip will receive a tour, a carrousel ride, and the Simple Machines workshop. |
Conductive Construction
Thursday, September 18th 10:00am-11:30am Recommended for grades 1st-5th Students will learn about electricity and how it relates to the carrousel. They will participate in a workshop using squishy circuits to learn about closed and open circuits. Students will use conductive play dough to experiment with circuits in groups. Homeschool families signed up for this field trip will receive a tour, a carrousel ride, and the Conductive Construction workshop. |
Spheros
Thursday, October 16th 10:00am-11:30am Recommended for grades 3rd-8th Students will tour the museum and learn how coding is used in band organs. Students will be using sequencing to create practical solutions to mazes with Spheros. Homeschool families signed up for this field trip will receive a tour, a carrousel ride, and the Conductive Construction workshop. |
