Meet Wren

Picture5 Year old Wren, Riding the 1916 carousel at the museum.
When you visit the museum it is easy to see how it is a special place to so many people. From carousel and band organ enthusiasts to local families plenty of memories have been made at the museum. This year we want to share the story of Wren, Grandma Marie, and Mr. Burt.

Grandma Marie purchased a family membership in 2022 to spend time with her then 3 year old granddaughter, Wren, after “seeing the delight on her face and hearing the laughter echo through the building brought so much joy to me and those around her.” Since 2022 Wren and Grandma Marie have become “celebrity visitors” at the museum. They visit the museum at least once a week and all of the staff and volunteers know them by name.

In the past few years we’ve had the joy of watching Wren grow up. She started school this year and now reports to Mr. Ian every week with what she is learning and the fun she is having with her classmates. This year we’ve had the pleasure of meeting Wren’s three year-old cousin Cooper as he now visits the museum regularly with Wren and Grandma Marie.

One of Wren’s favorite parts of the museum is visiting with Mr. Burt, one of our wonderful volunteers. Burt is a retired teacher, theater director, and school principal. He now volunteers at the museum as a woodcarver, docent, carousel operator, and you’re bound to find him when you attend Halloween Spooktacular and Santa on the Carrousel.

Wren asks about Mr. Burt every time she is at the museum and when their family’s regular museum day changed, Mr. Burt changed his volunteer days to match their new schedule. Wren loves watching Mr. Burt work on his carving projects in the Carving Floor. Wren makes sure to share her love of the museum with her family and friends and recently had them all at the museum to celebrate her 5th birthday.
